Lyrics Update on Screaming Females - Expire

One of my favorite posts has been the Screaming Females - Expire song.  Whenever I look at my stats it's one of my top five posts viewed. Which is fantastic because who doesn't love a great rock song!!  Anyway, I updated the post with new lyrics.  I was listening to the song this afternoon, following along with words when I realized I've had it wrong for too long.  Lyrics have been updated and hopefully viewers can check it out.

Kodaline - All I Want

I heard this song for the first time tonight and loved it instantly. February has always been such a difficult month for me. Remnants of my past color my vision leaving me unable to move from the memories. This song just captures the emotional intensity that lies beneath the surface. Anyway, enjoy!

The Goddess of Small Victories by Yanneck Grannec, translated by Willard Wood

I finished reading this book.  It was a decent read.  Yanneck Grannec writes a fictional rendition of the life of Kurt Godel, a famous mathematician told through the point of a view of his wife Adele.  This is a translation so it had a quirky lilt to the language.  This is a first novel for Ms. Grannec. I think what makes this book so special is that she manages to interweave mathematical theories into the novel in a way that makes it accessible to non-mathematicians.  Definitely worth the read.

Blue October - Fear

Blue October came out with a video for their song Fear last November.  How cool to be able to put the video up so others can check it out.  Enjoy!

Halestorm - Apocalyptic

Hello Halestorm!  They just came out with a new single.  Their new album Into the Wild Life will drop April 7th in the States.  Lord have mercy have I missed her voice.  I've been listening to sweet music lately...part of the whole healing process vibe.  I let my rocker roots go by the wayside.  Lzzy Hale reminded me to take a few moments to rock on.  Hoo-Rah!  Enjoy!!

Leviathan

I finally went to see Leviathan. A Russian film directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev, written by Oleg Negin & Andrey Zvyagintsev.  It's a film about Kolya (played by Aleksey Serebryakov) who fights against a corrupt mayor when he is told that he will lose his land and house. He recruits a lawyer friend Dmitriy (played by Vladimir Vdovichenkov) to help, who winds up bringing more misfortune for Kolya and his family.  Elena Lyadova plays his wife Lilya.  I was warned that this was a "depressing" movie.  In reviews I've read, they've compared the film to a modern-day depiction of the biblical story of Job.   Yes, the movie was difficult to watch because the things that went wrong only got worse as the film progressed.  It's a meditation on the inequality of human beings but adding another layer on how every action has a reaction and a consequence. At times, they could have curbed some of the words, it sometimes felt a bit overwrought. However, the dark humor help relieved some of the angst.
On another note...
The cinematography in this movie is gorgeous.  Long winding roads along the stark landscape of a Russian coastal town.  Dark overcast days. Even when the sun comes out it's only to illuminate hidden truths. Then there are long slow pans of the camera over the sea-washed whale bones on a beach.  Or the skeletal remains of old boats half-hidden beneath water lines.  The teen boys drinking in the ruins of church while firelight reflects against the fading frescos.  Beautiful.

Lennon & Maisy covering Charli XCX's Boom Clap

I have a soft spot for the show Nashville. I'll admit it.  It showcases the songs and music of talented songwriters. Two of the show's young actors did a cover of Boom Clap....I've attached the clip below. It's fun and sweet and I like this version a whole lot better than the original. Check it out.  Enjoy!

American Sniper

There was so much hype on American Sniper that I decided to go check this movie out on Saturday night.  Hmph.  I should have stuck to my indie flicks. As much as I like Clint Eastwood as a director and I do love the way he takes a quiet approach in shooting a script...this movie was too stark with not enough story arc. I thought the movie was way too long, it could have been edited down by at least 40 minutes.  I was yawning and shifting in my chair through half of it. I felt the soldier returning home and unable to connect with family could have been better developed.  The crying wife begging the husband to talk to her felt like every other relationship. I will say Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle was pretty amazing. I didn't realize he had this much range as an actor so it was great to see him with some definite intention.  I know there are a lot of people out there who love this movie but I just don't get it.  What am I missing?
